Bullet Penetration and Performance - Test #1

For this test, we developed a number of 7mm Remington Magnum loads and tested them in four main categories, accuracy, velocity, penetration, and weight retention. The following is description of the test results.
Bullets and Powders Tested:
Nosler -175 gr. Partition
Speer -175 gr. Grand Slam
Hornady -175 gr. Interlock
Powders Used in Test - Reloader 22, IMR 7828
Factory Loads Tested:
Winchester 175 gr. Power-Point
Remington 175 gr. Core-lokt.
Accuracy is the average of five 3-shot groups, fired at 100 yards from a benchrest.
Velocity is a ten-shot average fired over a pro-chrono digital chronograph. Velocities are taken 10' from the muzzle.
Penetration is the depth of penetration, in inches, into wet phone books at 80 yards. This distance was chosen, because it is a standard measure, and a relatively common distance for taking game under normal conditions.
Retained Weight is the actual weight, in grains, of the recovered bullet used during the penetration test. This is the weight of the remaining solid, attached bullet mass, not including fragments lost during penetration.
